You’re engaged, and there is a great deal of excitement for what feels like a new chapter of your life! Joy fills the air and it feels like the excitement of marrying the love of your life is a beautiful melody playing in the background of your every thought. And, what comes next? Let’s be real: although the thrill of this moment is undeniable, the idea of planning your wedding might already be nudging you, bringing a hint of overwhelm.
To make the transition from engagement to wedding planning easier, take a deep breath and take each step one at a time. This is really the key – one step at a time. Because this is a journey of creating wonderful memories, not of rushing through the process. It might be deciding on a venue (and you should do this first), selecting the perfect dress, or even planning your guest list – each decision is bringing you closer to your dream day.
It’s like you come out of the closet to the world and bang you are surrounded by questions. When is the big day? Where is that grand celebration going to happen? Have you even found that show stopping dress yet? Oh and do not even get me started on the never ending palette of colors to choose from. It’s like a whirlwind of excitement and curiosity and you’re just trying to catch your breath.
Don’t panic, my friend. But then, among the well meaning, often nosy questions that are part of people’s lives, we’ve got your back. We’re going to navigate you through the confusion of post-engagement thinking with a full list of the important steps to make this journey from ‘Yes’ to ‘I do’ as easy as finding that perfect dance move.
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of wedding planning, first of all, do not forget about the meaning of the unique and short-lived time in your relationship. In other words, engagement is likely the shortest part of your journey together as a couple, so in this moment and in this place, you should enjoy it. Often newly engaged couples do it by taking a short break to celebrate. It is now the time to enjoy your engagement, to enjoy the love, the excitement, and the anticipation of it. It is a time to celebrate your commitment and to make a lot of beautiful memories together.
Today, a just engaged couple visited our venue and during our conversation, I had to ask if their rings were insured. Guess what? They are insured! Great! Many jewelers are now chatting with the customer about purchasing jewelry insurance when the ring is sold through the jewelry shop. After that, I went on to ask if they have taken a break from the endless questions that everyone has been asking them. Hmm… Maybe not.
This is the golden period, so seize the moment. In fact, you should capture those oh so precious moments right after you’ve gotten engaged now. Make memories now! It’s a busy time and you should treat yourselves to a little celebration. From a beach picnic to a mountain retreat to a simple stroll in the woods, pick what speaks to you. They will become a part of your memory forever and will be a source of strength throughout life’s many twists and turns.
Once again, embrace the joy of being involved – insure your rings, do take an intentional break. Stop and savor the moments you’ll cherish for this next journey.
It is not be the most exciting pre-planning things to do, but nevertheless it’s a really important one!
It’s a wise decision to safeguard these symbols of your love story.
Just picture the sparkle of your engagement ring, the elegance of the wedding band – they are not just pieces of jewelry; they are your and embody your specific path. So, insure them, it is a way of protecting them one more, and make sure these valuable tokens continue to be part of your journey, no matter what happens in life.
You can add on coverage through your home-owner’s or renter’s insurance provider. Or look into jewelry insurance specialists who can provide a policy independent of your existing policies.
Little Story – This location was Mr. Manatee’s, a restaurant, before we transformed it into the Palafox Wharf Waterfront Wedding Venue 17 years ago. During a lunch visit, I went to the restroom to wash my hands and I noticed something very sparkly on near the wash basin. It was a dazzling ring it looked like a 3-carat diamond. First thing that came to mind was that a newly engaged bride took the ring off to wash her hands and inadvertently left it behind. In an effort to reunite the ring with its owner, I gave the ring to the restaurant’s managing partner. I hope it found its way back to the bride! I hope she insured her ring!
It’s time to find out what exactly your ring insurance covers and what it doesn’t. Take charge. Call the insurance agent to find out what the insurance does not cover.

Regardless, make sure to really read the fine print. Before putting pen to paper, understand the inclusions and exclusions of the policy. Ask questions. Take the initiative now, not later, to actively invest your time.
Dive into the specifics of coverage. What if the wedding band mysteriously disappears at the celebration? Do communicate with your insurance agent. Initiate that conversation; don’t make assumptions. Do you know what your coverage includes and excludes? Does your coverage protect you against loss, theft, or damage? Think of it as establishing a safety net for your precious gems and ensuring comprehensive coverage.
And it’s not just about the bling. Perhaps you have other rings, family heirlooms, or custom jewelry pieces with sentimental value. Include them in the coverage discussion. Each piece has its own story, and insuring them preserves those memories.
Sure, reading the fine print might not be the most captivating task. Knowing the ins and outs prepares you for any unforeseen events, eliminating unexpected plot twists.
